On Saturday there was a J-fashion meet in Antwerp, organised by Sári. She had made reservations at Mad Hatter for high tea.
Normally people were meeting up in Central station at noon, but thanks to a fire (yes, yes, a fire) in Brussels Central (of which the details are vague, as is everything concerning the NMBS/SNCB) Lora couldn't get her normal connection so we ended up being an hour later. I could have been in time, but that was of no use because Lora didn't know the way and I did, so it made much more sense for the others to go to the venue and get started without us, and for us to join them later.
As the train Lora and I had to take (well her second train, the first one was a bust) was Louvain-Antwerp-Louvain, which doesn't include Brussels (it's not anywhere near Brussels) we weren't supposed to have any issues.
Of course, the NMBS being the shitbags that they are, they can't properly coordinate what goes on on their rails, and so a PASSENGER train, full of PAYING customers had to wait for 10 minutes in the middle of nowhere, racking up a delay, because a commercial freight train had to be allowed through on said rails first. Disgusting, utterly disgusting.
That rant aside, we ended up arriving in Central station with a 15 minute delay, walked over to Mad Hatter (I hadn't been there before, but I knew where the street it is on was, so it was super easy for us to find it once we were there) and joined the others.
I really like Mad Hatter, it's very cozy, you really get your €15 worth for their regular high tea, and well, it was fun to hang out with the others, plain and simple :).
I don't want anything else from a meet really.
Oh and the proprietor of Mad Hatter is like a blonde ringer for the actress that plays Cheryl Blossom on Riverdale!
(Totally unimportant but I wanted to mention it anyway).
Afterwards we took photos,
Group shots thanks to a very kind passer-by :).
Most people we came across were very friendly and complimented our outfits. There were sadly a few questionable characters around (like the moment where we suddenly found ourselves surrounded by a bunch of drunk guys on a stag do, who were luckily quickly shooed along by the group's token sober guy. Thank you sober guy!), but this time 'round it was definitely a majority of friendly people, which was great!
we hung out some more and called it a day due to increasingly dodgy weather and some people's sore feet (they really need to make these lolita fashion shoes more comfortable, why can't they all be tea parties?!).
So after we had invaded Think Twice in the Kammenstraat, we all went our separate ways.
Well sort of, Lora and I went the same way, popping in and out of some shops to go find things we still wanted to get. Which wasn't entirely succesfull on my part, but at least I tried :).
Also Kruidvat, is it really that hard to keep your essence displays looking nice and not like it was attacked by some kind of maniacal horde?
(clearly it is, but it shouldn't be!).
Our train home, known for getting delays, was miraculously only ONE minute delayed. So fun was had, despite the NMBS' best attempts to keep us from joining the high tea! I'm pretty sure I'll be doing it again some time :).
Anyway, here be pictures! (link leads to the entire flickr set of the meet).
Evi was being very windswept, so the best solution to do in such a case is to show off your print :D
I really loved how her reflective sneakers matched the windows on the print. Very clever. And also: yay for comfy shoes! :)
Sári forever complains that she doesn't know how to pose. Last year at Atsusacon, her bf Harmen made funny faces to make her laugh. So now we just shout "think of Harmen making faces", which makes her laugh, which results in photos of her laughing :).
Fun time! :D (no seriously, it's all in good fun! ^^).
