Favourites of December

Remove, ... EVERYTHING
All hail isopropyl myristate, aka the ultimate make-up remover. It’s an ingredient in these wipes, which means it is now relatively easy to get rid of waterproof mascara. Or waterproof anything on the eyes really. And at € 2 for 50, I feel like they are very reasonably priced, too (who am I kidding, they're mega cheap, huzzah!).

Lollipop, lollipop, you’re such a cute lollipop… cat
I just love the designs of the icicle kitty necklaces by I Love Crafty x Pony People! To be honest, the grape coloured one is my favourite, but as that one was already sold out when I first discovered them, I was doubting between mint and orange. I wouldn’t go for an actual orange flavoured popsicle, but then orange would go better with brown and thus steampunk. Basically in the end I was doubting about them for so long that Bert just went and bought me one for Christmas (thank you Bert!), and I LOVE it!

Loa likes the purple

MORE purple!
I’ve been wanting a nice dark purple eye shadow for ages (another case where my NYX Brights palette is failing me. The lilac and dark purple are lovely, they just don’t have much staying power), and in the end I settled on Indian Ink by M.A.C. Initially I didn’t get this back in November when I was in the Antwerp store, because one of the shop girls misinformed me and said it was going to leave the range (and I didn’t want a repeat of the Chill misery), but then I found out it is in fact NOT leaving the range, so of course I had to get it. Obviously! *Finding Nemo seagull impression à MINE MINE MINE*.

M.A.C blush in Dollymix

Because a good blush is awesome to have
And this blush by M.A.C is pretty awesome! It was the closest colour they had to my much beloved Yves Rocher blush (with lousy colour pay-off AND now discontinued: double fail). It’s not exactly the same, but that’s ok, because this can be worn super subtle if I use just one layer. It’s also a really nice, natural looking pink (when worn), so no complaints. I will, of course, still be on the lookout for the perfect replacement of that YR one when this is nearly gone, but if I can’t find it, I would definitely repurchase Dollymix.

Best Friends Forever
I’m actually surprised I’ve never talked about Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur before. Well, I kinda do: I didn’t because I didn’t want to rave about the latest single issue each month, and it took me ages to get the first volume. I have them all on my tablet so it wasn’t a priority buy. Which is shameful on my part because this is, hands down, my favourite comic series. Basically this is about a genius pre-teen girl and her pet red T-rex. It may sound girlie and lame, but it really is NOT. It is absolutely amazing, full of adventures and awesome and I love it so much. This is literally the only comic I buy the singles of as well, because I can NOT wait to find out what happens next ‘till a volume happens. It’s impossible!
Also, this is one of those very rare series that have the same writer and artist, every… single… issue, so you aren’t stuck with issues of which you like the story but hate the art. To me, this is a great relief and I hope it never changes with this series. This is just the first volume, but I will definitely buy the next ones too!

Awesome art is awesome! (But customs suck).
Brian Kesinger is my favourite artist. I own both his Otto and Victoria books, and I had been eyeing his sketch book for, well pretty much since it was announced. But the shipping to Belgium was so steep ($22.50) so I kept putting it off. Until last month’s Black Friday weekend where Brian generously gave 35% discount on his entire etsy shop. He also announced there were less than 100 left, so not wanting to miss out, I just went and bought one. I have no regrets. I would have really regretted it if I missed out on it though, this book is gorgeous! Sadly, I did have to pay €18,08 in customs fees. On a book that cost me €42,something, shipping included. Because you know, apparently we have to pay customs a forfaitary sum of €15 just to do their goddamn job. (Customs in Belgium is 21% of item/items + shipping + € 15 forfaitary cost. And if they can't really figure out what you paid, they'll just guess (which they did in this case)! Yes, yes, Belgium is THAT ridiculous a country...).

Apply that make-up, apply it good!
I love Spectrum brushes. I adore them. They are, hands down, my favourite brand of cosmetics brushes. So when I got this set as a Christmas present from Bert (thank you Bert!!!!!!) I was understandably super happy. Now I finally have (nearly) all the brushes I still needed and wanted, huzzah! I just adore these, they are such great quality, and they really make applying make-up so much easier. They are really pleasant to the touch as well, so basically: only good things!

I’m neither evil nor a twin, but ok, what’s in a name right?
I’m not entirely sure what the good people of Too Faced were thinking when they came up with names for their Melted Matte lipstick series, but name aside, this rocks.
Basically, I wanted a dark purple that didn’t suck. Much as I love NYX’ Bruised, the formula is super patchy and it leaves a LOT to be desired (I will continue to use it if I need to touch up this one quickly though) application wise. But luckily, Too Faced makes the exact same colour (see swatch) that is not sheer and patchy and troublesome! Thank you Too Faced!!!

Untitled-1 copy

Make it stick!
I got both M.A.C fix+to make sure my blush and highlight stay in place. And of course, then I got a M.A.C blush and it stayed in place without help anyway (as these things go). And the NYX powder is to make sure my concealer doesn’t go anywhere.
The name is a mite confusing though as Fix+ leads to believe it’s a setting spray, which it isn’t, it’s a finishing spray. As well as a spray on moisturiser and primer. You can also spray it on your brush after you’ve put eye shadow on it to make your shadow more blendable and more vibrant. It’s mega multi functional and I love it!

I got this powder by NYX because it's practical to have a powder and this one does the job. It was either this or the Too Faced one, and when I saw the price of that (€ 29,50 minus shipping, so bascally nearly € 40 in total), the choice was quickly made. It's a good powder, it really does the job. And as it is basically just sillica, there's nothing dubious in it, and its actually pretty good for the skin. My skin likes it, in any case. So yeah, good stuff.
I still hope to get my hands on the NYX SFX powder one day, but lord knows when and if there SFX stuff will be available in stores in Belgium XD.

home-made organic lip scrub

Tastes like coffee
I needed a lip scrub. But I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on one. So I looked up recipes online and settled for this coffee one, because we literally have everything for that in house. It works fine, it tastes nice and it’s organic too, because I used only organic ingredients: bonus! It’s very mild, which means that if you have very dry lips with a lot of dead skins, you’ll have to do this a few days in a row to get them completely smooth, but I think that’s fine. I don’t have any issues with that. After two uses my lips were nearly completely devoid of dry and loose skins :). I did use lip balm during the day to moisurise of course!
I bought the little jar for it at Flying Tiger Copenhagen, but they are 5 cents cheaper at Dille & Kamille (€ 1 vs € 0,95). It’s a quick and easy recipe and it works, so I’m well pleased.

Om nom nom
I couldn’t include it in the overview photo, because by the time December 31st came 'round, I had eaten them all. I did, however, take a photo of the first one we got a few weeks ago, because I’m painting it in class. But I LOVE dragon fruit. Every year I is nigh impossible to find, and then come December, the local supermarket suddenly stocks up on all these exotic fruits. So in December and January, I eat a lot of dragon fruit whilst stocks last. It’s definitely one of my fave fruits, and as this is a faves of the month post, I just HAD to include it!

Nearly January!

Happy New Year
I like having a small calendar on my desk, because I find it very practical. Generally I use the free one I get at Coleruyt supermarket because it’s such a practical size, but this year, my dad gave me this animal print one he got with a glorified tabloid magazine (Dag Allemaal, my mum reads it) and they didn’t need. It’s a little bigger but it is SUPER cute, and the lay-out is mega practical. So I’m really happy with it. Thanks dad!

Added note: where possible I link to English language (UK) websites in the summary, even when I bought the product in a Belgian store, or via a Dutch language website. So if you don't live in the UK, simply google for your country's website alternative. Most stores I buy from have one.
Eventually these links may expire when a company discontinues a product, but at the time this post goes live, they *should* all be good.
