Antwerp Convention is dead, long live Antwerp Convention [Jun. 20th, 2016|09:43 am]

Alex Agnew

After the announced cancellation of the one and only real Antwerp Convention (read more about that here), a lot of people were understandably VERY disappointed.
So the kind people of Café The Joker decided to open up their small café and turn it into a micro convention: Micro Comic Con.

Bert and I chose to go pretty early on in the day, because we figured that as it was a micro con, it might get crowded very quickly (it was actually ok, but it might have gotten worse later in the day).
And lo and behold, it was tons of fun! :)

Eat the cupcake!

We had a drink, I didn't have a cupcake, although in hind sight I should have seeing how hungry I got later on.

Jens was there with a small Mekanik Strip stand.

Girl with awesome Disney outfit :)

I saw a girl with a really cool Disney outfit so asked if I could take her photo for BCM, and she said yes, so huzzah :)

Alex Agnew was there signing some comics he cooperated on, so I bought Bert his Suske and Wiske spoof. Bert had it signed too :)
I also asked him to pose for BCM, which he was happy to do, much obliged :)

And several other comedians and artists were there too :) Such as Xander De Rycke, Sven De Ridder and Art Grafunkel and many more!

It really was small, but it had that same atmosphere that made Antwerp Con awesome. Which was awesome because it felt like we at least had a glimpse back from Antwerp Convention :)
Also: for collectors it was a small piece of heaven, because almost everyone was selling at bargain prices, so deals really could be made :)

After hanging around the convention for a bit, Bert and I decided to check out the Swan Market at the Grote Markt. We had never been to one before, and seeing it was on the same day, we figured we might as well. I had put away my camera after the convention, and I was too lazy to get it back out, so I don't have photos, but it was fun enough to see :)
It's a nice initiative in any case :)

We didn't stay much longer in Antwerp, just having a nice walk back to the station in the sunshine. It wasn't really warm, but it was nice outside. Bert and I both considered it a Sunday afternoon well spent :)
Contrary to usual, all my photos from yesterday ARE in this post.

And my outfit of the day, photo by Bert :)

It really was! If these guys did one again I'd definitely attend that one too :)
