On Sunday, May 22nd I went to Liège because Lunie had been kind enough to invite me to a meet in the French side of the country. In a town to which I can take a direct train, huzzah. It still takes me nearly 2 hours to get there, but at least I didn't have to change trains, which is always a bonus :)
I had decided, against my better judgement, to pack most of my things for the meet on the morning itself. Which I normally never do, and it wil NEVER be done again. Here's why.
I pick up my camera (my DSLR), Bert shouts that I need to drop everything and come look at the cat. I put the camera back (because I'm sure as hell not dropping it), go look at the cat, who is just being ridiculously cute on a chair (nothing new), get distracted and... yes indeed, FORGET my camera.
I was very upset (there were no tears, but I was crying internally --> not really but I was pretty annoyed). I had only packed my Agfa Click 1, so I wasn't entirely cameraless (I wouldn't count the thing in my phone as a camera to be fair, although it has been known to surprise me in a positive way on rare occasions) but limited to 24 photos of Kodak Ektar 100 film. Which is the most sensitive film on the planet. On a dreary day. Auch. Hail the greyscale setting in photoshop is all I can say.
Luckily, Lunie was not as distracted and forgetful as I was, and she DID bring her DSLR, and she has NICE photos on her blog. Check those out here.
Anyway, I arrived on time (shock!) in Liège Palais, where I met up with Valeriya, Kei and Mymy and we walked to where we were meeting the others. I'm glad I could join them to walk there, because I had no idea where to go otherwise! Mymy has awesome purple hair btw, and an awesome floppy hat.
The others arrived, bar Lindsay and Nowaki, who were joining us at the restaurant (I can't remember the name, but it had a nautical theme!), which they did just in time to order :)
It was when I tried to take a photo of my lunch that I realised my camera was not in my bag (it's holster was, of course), but at home. SAAAAAAAD.
So I resorted to my smartphone XD
Valeriya sat accros from me and had a GIANT sandwich, there were even whole boiled eggs in it (which amused us all greatly). She had to ask for a ziplock bag to take half of it home (luckily that wasn't an issue).
I would have had to too to be honest.
Because the weather was pretty dire, we decided to take photos in a nearby gallerie (which is basically a covered street with shops on it, which were all closed because it was a Sunday). I know that Kodak Ektar would probably be a total gamble, even though the light was really nice inside, but I hadn't expected it to be THIS dire. Then again, the other 100 ISO film I'm used to shooting with is T-MAX, which is both very strong and very forgiving.
Anyway, I won't be repeating THAT experience, that's for sure.
Ektar and I seem to have a love-hate thing going on. I love it when it's a nice bright day, but I utterly despise it otherwise. And seeing nice bright days are rather limited in Belgium, I think I should probably stick to analog black and white photography as there just isn't the right kind of color film around for me apparently xD
So yeah, here's a bunch of artistic (that's the excuse I'm sticking with, because it sounds better than underlighted and failed) shots from my camera. Some actually came out nice I think (most didn't though). And I do still want to experiment with multiple exposure. Outside. In bright daylight. With my last roll of Ektar.
Again, Lunie has NICE photos, in colour, so if you want to see how the outfits really looked, click here :)
I don't even know what happened to my camera in this shot! These photos are supposed to be square format!
Maurraine took this accidental double exposure shot of me, I think it's pretty cool, actually :)
Experimenting with multiple exposure. This works better under better light. I shall try it again at a later date!
My favourite photo of the day.
I sincerely doubt they'll EVER let me repeat the "hey let's have an analog group shot" thing ever again. I can't actually blame them either. Oops. Many thanks to the kind lady that took it for us though :)
After the photo taking we went to a creperie, where I just had something to drink because I was still full from lunch. And then Nowaki, Valeriya and I walked to the station, in time for all of us to catch our trains :)
When I got home, the weather was both nice and the light still decent, so I asked Bert to take my outfit shot for me :)
