|That time Charlotte and I went to Amiens - part 1: Amiens + Cathedral (25.6.2015)
||[Jul. 14th, 2015|03:41 pm]
I have visited Amiens cathedral back in 2010 with Bert already, but Charlotte had been wanting to go as well so I suggested that maybe we could go up for a day whilst she was here :)
We split the gas and payage cost in two, so it wasn't even that bad to go there price wise :)
We got up when Bert got up for work, aka pretty much stupid o' clock (before 6am *sob*) to make sure we were out of the house well before 8. We had breakfast, got our stuff together and dragged ourselves into the car. For once Bert's old GPS, which we borrowed as Charlotte doesn't have one, behaved. I did fall asleep in the car, because I was so tired! Luckily Charlotte didn't need me to stay awake else I'd have been a massive zombie when we got to Amiens.
The drive was pretty uneventful, we stopped once to use the toilet (stupid French toilets) and that was probably the most exciting bit haha :)
We arrived at Amiens around 11. The parking where Bert and I parked last turned out to not exist anymore so we drove around a little and ended up finding another one. It wasn't the best when it came to navigating it, but there was plenty of space and it was cheap so it's all good. Because we were really hungry, we wandered around in the area around the cathedral for a bit, with small distraction of the Sephora (where we were good and did NOT buy anything), in search of food. There were tons of tourist trap kinda things, so we turned into a street a little further away of the cathedral, found a spot which served too much tuna to my liking (I'm violently allergic to tuna so I didn't really trust that) and spotted a comic book shop accross the street. So I said that I wanted to go buy City Hall tome 7 (which I was planning anyway) and ask where was good to eat. And so I did, and the friendly comic book guys pointed us to a little diner around the corner. Where we went and 'lo and behold, not only was it massively affordable, it was slowly filling up with LOCALS!
If the locals eat there, you can't go wrong :)
And we didn't, because the cheeseburgers we ordered were both delicious and HUGE, OMG!
It was 5 times bigger than that, far too much for my tiny appetite!
But it was goooooooooood!
Wish I had remembered to take a photo BEFORE I started eating it XD
After food we wandered back to the cathedral, where we looked around and took some photos.
Photo of the day: 25.6.2015 (day 176)
The alleged skull of John the Baptist was no longer on public display, but had moved to the treasury, which wasn't open XD
I had seen it in 2010, but if would have been cool if Charlotte had been able to see it too!
Picture from 2010.
We ambled around the cathedral square, looking at some shops and buying bits and bobs.
I had bought two little votive candles at the cathedral (you can burn them there but I took them home, I paid for them fair and square of course!) and then a little cat coaster for Bert, a slide out postcard (cathedral in the front and if you slide it up it has the labyrinth of the church), some postcards for his grandparents and some souvenir coins (also for Bert).
And then it was time to visit Amiens Zoo, of which I shall post tomorrow! :) (hopefully at least).

That's all my photos from 2010 and 2015 (the eldest are in the back).
EDIT (17.7.2015): Photos of the zoo + livejournal post is up, you can read it here ^^
