|For Halloween I went to Disneyland Resort Paris :)

Day 1: HALLOWEEN!
Halloween and the Soirée Halloween in the Disneyland Park
Charlotte had driven up from my house all the way from the UK (she had taken her car on the ferry) the day before and we went to bed early because we were getting up stupidly early (like 2.30 am, thankfully the clocks changed so we managed to get an extra hour of sleep). I slept really badly because some morons in our street were being super LOUD with music. If I find out who it was (I’m suspecting it was the Chiro youth movement) I’m so going to the cops and file a complaint for excessive noise (over here in Belgium you have to be quiet after 10pm) because I hardly slept. They literally got quiet half an hour before I had to get up, bastards. Luckily Charlotte had been sleeping in our living room, where she got pretty well shielded from the noise. She was going to drive so it was a good thing she did get enough sleep!
Anyway, we left for Sam’s house, as we were picking him up along the way. He sort of lives on the way so it was more logical for us to pick him up than for him to drive up to my house.
Some random sillyness in a gas station bathroom ^__^
When we finally had everything and everyone we went off to Disney, with only one stop at a petrol station to get more diesel for the car. Seriously that was rather surreal. There was a drag queen in the station shop and he kept on STARING at Charlotte and me’s Halloween costumes. Charlotte and I thought that was pretty hilarious. Kudos to him for being able to walk in 15 inch heels though, I’d fall over flat on my face just standing up!
Thankfully I managed to get more sleep in the car.
We got to the Hotel Santa Fe around 8am, which was sadly an hour later than we had hoped for but hey. Check in didn’t take that long so that was good but the CM was SO increadibly unfriendly and grumpy we totally forgot about making reservations for Plaza Gardens, d’oh. We were also muttering darkly about them already having put up Christmas decorations and a huge tree in the parking lot.
I also don’t like the fact that they changed Clint Eastwood for Cars but hey.
We got all the hotel paperwork and were told we would be able to pick up the key from 3pm. I think that new system is SO increadibly annoying. You used to just get the key but generally you weren’t able to get into the room before 3 and that was WAY easier.
Personally I think DLP is just complicating matters by making people queue twice at the hotel desk.
We got the last bits and pieces sorted, Sam changed into his costume (well ok put on the bits he hadn’t put on yet) and we walked to the Disneyland Park.
The luggage department people were totally slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow and it took forever before I got to put the stuff for my friends Dan and Jon and my big grey winter coat in there (it was warm enough to just wear my tailcoat). The guest relations queue next to the luggage drop-off was even worse, because Sam and Charlotte were barely moving in that. Of course some rude fat French dude YELLING at the girl serving him and the lack of enough windows being open didn’t help at all. But eventually we managed to get Charlotte’s ticket and get into the park.
Frankly I think it's high time that DLP starts including entry tickets to the parks with reservations made with AP discount. Because this is just making it really expensive for non AP holders that are in a room with AP discount. Especially since the ticket prices have gone up AGAIN (€ 42 for a day in one park now, and that is WITH discount!).
We then managed to skip the massive Halloween night bracelet queue (you have to get one if you have a ticket for the night) thanks to my disability pass otherwise we would have lost at least half an hour there and I probably would have keeled over.
And also the program map for the event as well as the normal program for the day :)
Finally we were able to run amok in the park.
When we got into Discoveryland the sign for Space Mountain claimed the queue was only 15 minutes so after we got a return ticket for Buzz Sam and Charlotte went to Space and I went into Constellations to look at merchandise. They showed back up less than 2 minutes later because the queue was apparently an hour rather than 15 minutes. Fail signage is FAIL.
We had a look at Plaza Gardens to see if we could get in to make reservations but the breakfast was still happening and there was a massive queue that wouldn’t move at all.
So instead we decided to go to wait for
Frontierland Halloweenland to open (because it was nearly 10am at that time) only to come to the conclusion they had opened it early. Seeing we didn’t want to get into the massive queue for Big Thunder Mountain (as I would fall over horribly) we got a return ticket. For 5 minutes later, total awesomeness! So we managed to get onto Big Thunder in less than 5 minutes. The CMs for that ride were so friendly and helpful, seriously kudos to them! And of course the ride was awesome as always. I decided to take the risk and keep my glasses on (for the first time) and that was absolutely fine so for once I’ve actually SEEN the ride instead of a blur, total bonus :D
We then went to take some photos at the Halloween décor where we bumped into Dan and Jon and their friend Rob. I handed Dan and Jon their Halloween Night tickets and we all went on to Phantom Manor. They stayed behind for characters whilst we went on the ride (and took more photos of the Manor, Thunder and some guests in AWESOME costumes).
When we got off we didn’t see Dan, Jon and Rob anymore and the only villain that was out was poor Hook who was getting mobbed. So we decided to go see Mr Skellington. The queue for Jack was very short (only about 5 minutes) and there were 2 girls in front of us, one dressed as Cruella and the other as the Queen of Hearts from the Tim Burton movie, which was kindda funny as Sam, Charlotte and I were dressed as Steampunk Wonderlandians :D (Sam was the Hatter, Charlotte the Rabbit and I was the Cheshire Cat).
Jack was pretty awesome so it was really cool to meet up with him and the Character attendant was so nice to take a group photo of us with him. Thank you kind CM!
We decided to go explore more of Halloweenland (= Frontierland for the season) and took loads more photos of the decorations.
I was sad to see that many parents just let their children crawl onto stuff, so many guests have NO respect for the park what so ever. And very few parents seem to bother with actual proper parenting.
After that we decided to go to Adventureland to take photos and ride Pirates of the Caribbean.
Surprisingly the queue for pirates was really short. It said 20 minutes but in reality it was 10 (we heard a CM say that to someone) so we hopped on through the queue.
And sang along with the song on the ride :D For a total bonus: none of us got wet!
We also explored some more around Adventureland :)
Totally random pumpkin :)
On the walk-way on the outskirts of Adventurland. Very pretty, I love these "forgotten" paths :)
Since we had been running about for ages and hadn’t had much to eat (sandwiches in the car) we were all famished by then and went back to Main Street for food at Casey’s Corner, which is one of Sam’s favourite places.
Sadly Casey’s must be the SLOWEST place in the entire park. It took us without exaggerating 40 minutes to get our food and there were 3 people in front of us. It’s RIDICULOUS. Every time I’ve eaten there in the past couple of years it’s taken AGES for us to get food. I would NOT recommend that place to anyone if there is any kind of queue inside because it just takes forever to get served. And they got Sam's order wrong too so he had to go back in to get the right kind of hot dog X_x
After lunch we tried to get Plaza reservations again, and yet again there was a long queue that wasn’t moving so we decided to go do something else in the evening instead and gave up on it.
Seeing we wanted to see the Villains show Sam went to get popcorn and and found a spot on the first row right at the fence and the spot where I knew from earlier in the month Jafar would be at during the show.
Right before it started we heard an announcement (in several languages, including Dutch, NOVEL [seeing they usually don’t announce anything in Dutch]) saying the Villains’ Halloween Showtime was cancelled. We had started walking towards Discoveryland for Star Tours when we saw a whole bunch of characters from the show arrive so we ran back to where we were. Miraculously the spots were still there. The show wasn’t happening but a lot of characters and villains came out on the downstairs area on the stage side of the fence for meet and greets and photo posing. Which was pretty cool too.
Sadly there was one of the zombie pirates from the show that was the most OBNOXIOUS person ever. He blocked people’s view, screetched in the most ridiculous headache inducing high voice and jumped over the fence in the crowd acting like a total buffoon. He was funny for literally 2 seconds and afterwards he was so annoying it was unreal. Luckily after about 5 minutes (yes sadly it took that long) he decided to go annoy someone else.
What was also BEYOND shitty were the parents shoving their spawn in front of us. Seriously, get there the fuck in time people! Especially poor Sam got pushed back by retard parents with badly raised impolite little monsters that pass for human children.
We went to Discoveryland for Star Tours and discovered the Wall-e and Eve statue that's been added to the surroundings a couple of weeks ago. I love it, but then again I'm a huge Wall-e fan :)
I look forward to being able to take a photo without people in the background on a quieter day in the future!
Star Tours had a massive queue at the fast pass entrance. Which turned out to be a bunch of morons blocking the passage whilst waiting for their fast pass time to start. So we got through in the end and past them (they were giving us dirty looks) because a CM had appeared and asked everyone with valid fast passes to come through. Huzzah for that CM!
Star Tours definitely remains one of my favourite rides, and I’ll be very sad when version 2 is sorted and Rex the bumbling droid pilot will be replaced with something new :(
After Star Tours it was time for Buzz. I had expected the same crowed sardine queuing like on Saint Patrick’s Day but thankfully it wasn’t any of the sort! We were the only ones there with a disability return ticket and were let on pretty much immediately, totally awesome. The CMs were super nice too.
Around 2 pm we went back to Frontierland because I knew Facilier would be out. We waited a bit and indeed he did come out! Seeing we had been waiting we managed to get a photo with him pretty easy which was AWESOME! It was a super cool Facilier too!
Seeing we had been in every land bar Fantasyland and we wanted to do some rides there too we went there. First we got a return ticket for Peter Pan from the friendly CM at the ride. Then we wandered to the labyrinth only to find the MASSIVE queue for it.
Luckily you can get labyrinth shots from outside it :)
Thankfully there wasn’t a queue for the photo opportunity chairs so Charlotte and Sam posed on those for costume shots.
I wanted mine taken at the Dormouse so we crossed the road as the teapot with the animatronic dormouse is right opposite the chairs in the dining section of March Hare’s refreshment. There were some really “speshul” people in that area, let me tell you that O_x
After wonderlandian madness we went to Belle’s Christmas village, which was up already even though it was HALLOWEEN (epic fail is EPIC). Which is sadly always the case.
We took some pictures there and Charlotte got glühwein from the stand that not only had that but also some Halloween treats and wasp covered donuts.
At least they had the decency to also sell Halloween treats.
Then we went to Small World, which had a pretty massive disability queue but thankfully there’s chairs along it so it was all good. Sam and I shared the Mickey brioche I had gotten earlier at Casey’s and thus warded off starvation.
Small World is definitely NOT my favourite ride, even though it is kindda cute, but Sam and Charlotte love it so I had no problems with getting on it.
The tick tock of the clock outside drives me barking though.
We took some more photos of my outfit at some pretty autumnal ivy on a wall and wandered to the candy shop to go sit down and wait for the parade.
Dan, Jon and Rob were sitting on the benches near the castle stage and shouted at us and waved. I shouted back telling them where we were going so they knew where we would be at in case they wanted to come see the parade with us.
We luckily still had room outside the Boardwalk Candy Palace, so we waited there for the parade.
And watched the parade.
And the Halloween parade. Normally Dreams of Trick or Treat is the pre-parade but for some bizarre reason it was now the after parade. Regardless of that it was still AWESOME!!!! And there were new characters and dancers and a brand new float too!
After the parade we first went onto Peter Pan's Flight
and then wandered around some more into Adventureland to do some shopping in Le Coffre du Capitaine (which always has Halloween stuff during the season and decorations outside it) and then decided to go to the hotel, get the key, move the car closer to the room (as you’re not supposed to keep it in the parking lot outside reception all the time), move our stuff into the room and eat dinner in La Cantina.
Getting the key sadly took longer than checking in, which was annoying because we were all pretty knackered by then. But eventually we managed. At least this CM was jolly and nice :)
Finding a parking space was a bit harder as there were a LOT of cars but we managed that too and finding the room went pretty well too. Thankfully we were on the ground floor so we didn’t have to drag bags up stairs :D
The rooms have had a make over too with Cars bedding and new flat screen TVs. For the rest they’re still the same.
We dropped off our stuff, hung out for a bit, goofed around and Charlotte changed her costume a bit from White Rabbit to an Elisabethan era get-up and and we went off for dinner.
La Cantina was AWESOME! Not only is the buffet great but it was nice and quiet! Most people had probably stayed at the park to eat so we got to sit down and have a relaxed dinner that wasn’t overrun by a mob of people instead :D No having to look for a place to sit or anything. Total bliss!
When we finished dinner we popped in the shop where they had a pumpkin man doing meet and greets. That may not seem special but this one was one that wasn’t out in the parks! He had a scarier head than his park brethren too. Apparently this was one of the meaner pumpkin men, but he was happy to pose with people as long as they were nice. Sadly I had left Brick (my SLR) in the room and my compact digital isn’t the most cooperative indoors camera in the world so all I got was blurry pics. But they are still cool so ner!
We bought some ornaments and other small presents for people back home and then dumped those into the room before heading to the shuttle and into the park for the Soirée Halloween.
First we went to Frontierland where Sam wanted to play Epic Mickey. Seeing the try-outs for that game hadn’t started yet we went into Phantom Manor first.
We then went in for Epic Mickey.
And Charlotte and I ran out like mad maniacs when we saw this really AWESOME Steampunk Halloween stiltwalker.
And then wandered back in after having taken his photo. The Nintendo promo woman thought it was super amusing and kept on letting us in and out as much as we liked, she was SO nice! Charlotte and Sam played the game for a while
and then we went to Fantasyland for the villain meet and greets.
Guess who we found there: PANIC AND PAIN! I nearly had a fit when I saw them and thanks to the help of their super brilliant attendant I got to have my picture taken with them.
Dan, Jon and Rob arrived there too and Dan and Jon took pictures of Charlotte, Sam and I posing with Phil.
We posed with more villains
and then when it was time for them to take a break we went on the carrousel.
After the carousel we posed with more villains
and then we went to ride Small World again.
There was literally NO queue for that as everyone was watching Fantilusion.
We came across some awesome Day of the Dead characters along the way too.
Fantilusion took longer than we thought so we had to wait a while before we managed to get into Discoveryland. The queue for Space Mountain had gone up to an hour and half which is well and truly into the realm of the ridiculous so Sam and Charlotte took a pass on that. We also didn’t manage to find Les Fous Volants :(
Which saddened me greatly as I ADORE them.
We watched the villains show from afar, I went to get my stuff from the luggage area and managed to drop off Dan and Jon’s stuff with them thanks to Rob who was kind enough to pass it onto Jon. They were stuck in the crowd waiting for the final show and the people around Dan and Jon point blank refused to budge even though it was really clear that we weren’t going to stay there. Rude much.
Actually “rude much” was pretty much the sentence of the day as this time the park was really quite full of rude, obnoxious and ignorant people. Normally you come across only a few but this time they all seemed to have come out of the proverbial woodwork :(
We left just as the final show ended to go back to the hotel, fall over on our beds and SLEEP. Because that way we managed to beat all the massive crowds and didn’t have to be on an overcrowded bus ^__^
