Because I’m nice
I got this holiday set from Winky Lux (Bert has started using the gold bag to put some of his accessories in, because I didn’t want it) via asos, where it was € 18 off. I call that a really good deal, especially as I didn’t have a highlighter.
I LOVE this one, it’s too bad this is a limited edition because I’ll be sad if it’s gone!
It’s an amazing champagne shade, so aptly named bubbles, that looks great on my skin and goes well with my blushes.
It must be said, for honesty’s sake, that it does emphasise all skin texture, but I personally don’t mind that at all. But I figured I’d mention it because I know a lot of people do mind.
I also really like the lipstick in the set. It is so smooth, and feels super moisturising. It’s also a really lovely shade of dark red, so win all around.
Btw, the moment I put this post online, asos still has this at the discounted price.
Why choose between red and brown if you can have both?
Yes, why would you, when you can just get M.A.C’s film noir lipstick (there is also a brown blush)? I certainly don’t know! This is the _perfect_ brown with red undertone. So it’s both red and brown, and I think it’s amazing. This shade really is my jam, so I’m really happy Bert bought it for me.
Picture of it worn :).
Bye bye panda eyes!
I have pretty bad grey circles underneath my eyes. And because I really do like to look a lot healthier than I usually do, I have resorted to shelling out for a concealer that actually WORKS. It took me a while to get the hang of using it, but I really do love it.
I don’t love the pump, but you know, can’t have it all. It’s a problem that is easily solved anyway, I just put a little in a small sample pot for creams I got at M.A.C (it was an actual sample, I cleaned the pot when it was used up of course) and then whatever is left over I save for the next time. I also put some in that same sample pot when traveling, because it’s just way more practical that way. Especially as the packaging of the concealer is glass, so I prefer not to take that along with me if I don’t have to.
And yes, I know I faved an Yves Rocher concealer a few months back, but I don’t know, it just wasn’t working for me anymore as an under eye concealer. Originally it was, but after a couple of months it just started fading really quickly, even with powder, it just lacked the long wear I needed once it got colder and I needed more heavy duty coverage. I still use it on my face, as it’s still perfect for that. So I guess they’re both faves, just in a different way.
Usually I buy my liners at M.A.C, but technakohl liners are pretty expensive, so I try to experiment a little with other brands, too.
And I have to say that this gold one from NYX is really not a bad deal at all! Quite on the contrary. It applies REALLY easily, it’s super easy to work with. It stays on the waterline perfectly, for the entire day. AND it is smudge proof!
I heard, however, that you should NEVER wear it with contact lenses as it tends to stain them and cause serious trouble, but as I don’t wear lenses, it’s not giving me grief at all.
I also have really sensitive eyes, but like the M.A.C liners, I have no problems wearing this.
On a side note though, I do also own the black one, and even though it stays on a LOT better than many black liners on the waterline, it does need a little touching up on occasion, so not every colour is as good as the gold. Still, for colours you don't use often, or if you don't mind touching up a little every couple of hours (not the case with every colour, but as I've only used 2, I couldn't say which ones stay and which ones need extra attention when it comes to all the other colours), I would recommend these.
I loved this shimmery pale gold shadow the second I saw it. I did doubt about getting it, because I felt I had enough shadows, but then I figured that seeing my NYX jumbo pencil can function as a base, but isn’t really pigmented enough on its own (I’ll never quite understand the jumbo pencil hype), but really nears this shade, throwing this on top of the pencil would be the perfect solution. So I got this with a half off coupon.
And omg, this stuff is PIGMENTED like you would NOT believe.
When I swatched it on my hand in the store, it had a really good colour pay-off, but it was pretty light.
But over primer it really POPS. And over that NYX jumbo pencil, it is crazy bright light gold.
It’s amazing how versatile this shadow is, it’s also delightfully long lasting, so this was definitely a really good buy!
Not all that glitters is gold
Sometimes it’s Diamond Lust. I originally got this little refill pan to see if it would work as a highlight. It doesn’t really, unless as an inner corner one on my eyes, for that it’s amazing.
It’s also amazing to just add a subtle sparkle to nude and white eye shadows, which makes it really rather versatile. It was a chance buy, but I really love it a lot. I would totally buy this again. Although next tme I'll get it in a proper pot rather than a refill pan package.
I have such a dry lips issue, so I have Yves Rocher lip balms spread around the house (I’m not even joking). I got these last summer, and then kept them in my spares tin, until this month when I started using them. And OMG I totally regret not buying more of these! I shall miss them forever when they are gone! Luckily I have two more of these.
Tanne, my regular tattoo artist, told me it’s best to use body lotion to maintain tattoos that are often exposed. So I got this fragrance free nourishing one from Urtekram, a Scandinavian brand that is vegan and has a lot of organic products. Bert has used some shower gel from them before and our tooth paste is by them, but aside from that, to be honest I just grabbed this one because it was the only fragrance free one they sold at Bioplanet.
Haven’t regretted the choice for a minute, and would definitely repurchase when this is empty!
My one gripe about this product is the dispenser. Because it is a pump, there are 2 main issues with it.
1. The product at the beginning of the pump will dry out and become gross and thick and buttery. It’s very easy to clean off, BUT it does mean quite a bit of product, in total, is getting wasted.
2. It’s impossible to travel with unless you are travelling by car and you can just put it upright.
So yeah, it would have been better if this had been in a tube, or in a jar, but it is how it is. The pump issues can be overlooked simply because the product is that good. I just fill one of my little travel jars for cream with it now, because it means that in the long run, less product goes to waste.
With a name like Baby Love I could not, NOT throw the video of the original song in this post. Mostly because I always get the song stuck in my head when I think of this blush or see the name. But, thankfully, unlike the dude they sing about, this blush does not treat me bad, quite on the contrary.
It’s a gorgeous nude blush, it goes with everything, just what I wanted and needed. The formula is also really nice, and I love how pigmented and long lasting it is. It's hands down my favourite blush and I'll probably re-buy it for as long as Too Faced keeps making it.
Worn photo. I never wear a lot of blush, so it’s always hard to find a worn photo.
Ignore the face Loa is making in that photo, this stuff is a TOTAL LIFESAVER!
I’m not even jesting. When my skin got completely dried out, to the point of constant pulling, itching and flaking, by the new formula of the Yves Rocher BB Cream (I love Yves Rocher, but AVOID that BB Cream guys, seriously!), this was the thing that really fixed things again, and in a record time too!
Sure, it’s a little pricier, especially as it’s basically a travel size/deluxe sample size, but you don’t need a lot of it so it does last a while. I wouldn’t let the price of it stop me from re-purchasing it to be honest.
In fact, I've already bought a spare at Bioplanet for when the current one is empty.
Totally amazing product. Many thanks again to my friend Claire for recommending it to me!
Oh and the “fragrance free” means they didn’t add any artificial scent. It does have a scent from itself (not overly so mind, if you don’t have a keen sense of smell you probably won’t even notice because it’s so subtle). It smells like marzipan! But really nice, high quality marzipan, not the shitty chemical stuff. Which I feel is an added bonus.
And now that we’re on the subject of skin care, I say Yes to tomatoes!
And so does Bert for that matter. We’ve, admittedy, only used it twice so far, but we can both really tell that it really is very good against blemishes and black heads.
Especially Bert, who has oily skin and has break outs quite often, and is plagued by black heads, sees the difference in his skin, it is much, MUCH clearer. I will definitely re-purchase this for the both of us when it becomes an empty.
For those curious, I buy this via asos.
Whilst I was really impressed with this product, I won’t purchase a full size. Simply because I don’t use up a full size. That is literally the ONLY reason. If they would sell travel sizes of this, I would snap it up for sure.
But because it’s so awesome, it still deserves an honourable mention. And the product is:
M.A.C’s in extreme dimension lash mascara
I got a sample of this (well, I got two but I gave one to Claire) when I ordered on the M.A.C Belgium site last month, and because I ran out of black mascara, figured I’d give this a go.
And OMG I was impressed.
It doesn’t irritate my eyes at all, it is super easy to use, and even though the brush looks like a spiky torture device, it’s a really good brush that doesn’t hurt my eyes at all.
The mascara itself is smudge free, cleans off easily and well, that extreme dimension part was NOT a lie because it really lengthened my lashes like something fierce.
Would totally recommend this to people that love to lengthen their lashes without them starting to look clumpy, spidery or unnatural.
In case anyone is wondering, that bowl everything is in is a Mickey Mouse head shaped one from Disneyland Paris. I got it years ago, and for the life of me I can't remember whether I bought it myself, or whether it was a gift. But yeah, that's where it's from.
Added note: where possible I link to English language (UK) websites in the summary, even when I bought the product in a Belgian store, or via a Dutch language website. So if you don't live in the UK, simply google for your country's website alternative. Most stores I buy from have one.
Eventually these links may expire when a company discontinues a product, but at the time this post goes live, they *should* all be good.
Faves of past months (newest to oldest).
