|So today I went to the grand opening of the first UNIQLO store of the Benelux

In Antwerp to be exact.
I've been a fan of UNIQLO for a while now, I own two t-shirts, a Lulu Guiness collab in red with all over black cat print, and a Disney Tsum Tsum collab :) Both I've bought with the help of my awesome shopping service Nicole, as they were Japan exclusives. So I've been pretty excited about UNIQLO coming to Antwerp. I've cast many a longing glance at the shop whilst they were still constructing it, and when I found that that the grand opening was today, I just HAD to be there.
I got to UNIQLO at about 11.25, and the store was going to open at 12. I had expected the queue to be MUCH longer than it actually was, so that was great. And even though I was on my own, I wasn't bored, because there were plenty of people in the queue quite happy to chat to total stragers. Huzzah for friendly fellow queuers.
They were also doing a good job of trying to get even more people to come to the store, by handing out information pamphlets with promos and information about the store, not just to people in the queue but to passers-by also.
And they had a tako drum group marching from Central station to Uniqlo over the Keizerlei and Meir, drawing more attention.
To top it off, they served free coffee (cappucino, latte or black) to people in the queue, which encouraged quite a few people to join I think, because it was a bit chilly at that time.
Knowing the Japanese punctuality I had expected the store to open on the dot of 12, but they ended up opening a few minutes beforehand. I also hadn't expected to get in with the first batch of people, but sure enough I did. I wasn't amongst the first 100 so I didn't get a free 100% cashmere scarf, but that's totally ok, as none of the colours were a colour I wear AND either Loa or Shinto would just end up ruining it anyway.
Inside the store I ran into Joke, and as we were both floating about checking out everything sometimes we shopped together and sometimes we didn't :) We were both gushing over the coats though. I was particularly enamoured with this one (in black), but sadly it's way out of my budget. And I don't need a new coat anyway.
We both did take several photos, these are mine, from the downstairs area:
The stairs are really cool, when you go up, they have all these different lights build in, but if you go down, they are just regular white stairs. Very clever.
I love the concept of the ultra light down, especially because you can fold them up so small and wear them underneath another coat. But considering I haven't even worn a proper winter coat in years (I own one, it's just too warm), buying one would be an utter and total waste of money. Bert does get cold, and I did consider picking one up for him, but because I didn't know which color he'd like best I decided it would be better to let him check them out for himself at a later date.
When I got outside, there was still a bit of a queue of people waiting to get into the store. Even though it was quite busy inside, security and staff did a great job of organising the masses so the store would never be overcrowded. Much appreciated but it really made the experience very pleasant.
My sole regret is that at this point the store really is full of basics, and doesn't carry anything from the UT - graphic print series. Which makes me very sad, because that's what made me start loving UNIQLO in the first place. BUT, one of the very friendly shop girls (and all the staff was truly friendly and helpful, seriously, the customer service is sublime). So hopefully the printed tees will start arriving soon :)
In the end of the day, I didn't buy loads, a flannel shirt (yes I know, flanel) in navy and ochre, which was € 10 off as an opening deal, a pair of heatteach socks because I get cold feet easily and I want to see whether they are as amazing as everyone claims, a green heattech longsleeve for Bert, and then I profited of the 6 men's socks for € 9,90 deal, also for Bert. And because I spent over € 50 I got a very roomy and practical totebag which is only distributed today on opening day. Totebags always come in handy! Loa agrees.
